liquidity provider
A market participant that is obliged to buy and sell less liquid securities that it is registered in. In the process, it facilitates trading and improves liquidity in those securities. London Stock Exchange Glossary

Financial institution that facilitates trading in ETFs (or in certain other categories of financial instrument, e.g. shares). During trading, the liquidity provider places buy and sell orders on a continuous basis so that investors can trade their ETFs at all times. NYSE Euronext Glossary
